The month of May will be busy in the city of Fountain!

 

Fountain Roubaix
Starting on May 5th, Fountain will be the location of the 2nd Annual Fountain Roubaix Bike Race. This is part of the Tour of Colorado bike events.  The Fountain-Roubaix is the first event on the inaugural Tour of Colorado Series. It starts and finishes in downtown Fountain, and explores more than 40 miles of El Paso County gravel roads. The event runs from 8:00 am -6:00 pm.
Since it starts and ends in Fountain, there will be some road closures:

From 6:00 am – 6:30 pm - Main St between Ohio Ave and Illinois Ave will be closed
E Ohio traffic will be re-routed via Race St North to Iowa
W Ohio traffic will be re-routed via Ring St North to Iowa
From 1:00 pm – 6:30 pm - Westbound Missouri Ave will be closed at Walnut St

The Run for the Wall
The next event is the Run for the Wall happening on May 18th. The Run for the Wall is a motorcycle event dedicated to Prisoners of War and Missing in Action. “We Ride for Those Who Can’t.” Fountain has proudly been chosen as part of the 31st annual nationwide cross country event from May 15th – May 25th, which begins in Ontario, California and crosses the nation to Washington DC. On the 18th of May, approximately 300 – 500 motorcycles will enter Fountain from Northbound I-25 @ the 128 exit around 11:40 am. They will be joined by police on this 26 mile leg of their cross country ride.
Lunch will be served at Fire Station #1, catered by Golden Corral. Bikers should head out of town around 1:45 pm.
They will then depart Fountain and head Northbound on Hwy 85 to East Hwy 16, and then Eastbound Mesa Ridge Parkway to Marksheffel.

Defenders of Freedom Ride
A third event in the month of May is the Defenders of Freedom Ride on May 19th. It’s the 12th annual ride and the proceeds will benefit The El Paso County Homeless Veterans Coalition. Riding motorcycles over 40 miles through El Paso County & City of Fountain makes this “The Longest Law Enforcement Escorted Motorcycle Charity Ride in Colorado!”
The ride starts in the parking lot of King Chef 3 at 6436 S Hwy 85/87 in Fountain at approximately 11 am, with bikers heading out into various areas of El Paso County.  The return route will bring riders back through Fountain, with their final stop being the Pikes Peak International Raceway. The entire ride should take a little over an hour, so plan on Mesa Ridge Parkway being busy around 11:45 am and the middle of town as well, just before noon.

Memorial Day Events
There are three Memorial Day Events this month too!

At 8:00 am there is a Flag Raising & Free Breakfast at the American Legion Post 38, located at 6685 Southmoor Drive. For questions please call 719-392-9901.
