Construction Begins on Water Treatment Facility

Construction Begins on Water Treatment Facility
Posted on 07/10/2019

Residents and visitors will soon see construction activity at Aga Park – future home of Fountain’s new water treatment facility. The City of Fountain, in partnership with (and under the direction of) the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Air Force, will begin work on a $7 million state-of-the-art drinking water mitigation facility this July.

The facility is in response to the Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) discovered in Fountain’s groundwater supply in the fall of 2015. Following the discovery, the City of Fountain worked in partnership with the U.S. Air Force to acquire temporary treatment units for two of its four City-owned wells. These units have treated Fountain’s groundwater since June 2018 and will continue to do so until the permanent treatment facility is operable.

Native Hawaiian Veterans – Insight JV (NHV-I JV) was selected by the U.S. Air Force to construct the facility, which is expected to be complete by June 2020.
Initial construction activities may include surveying, utility line locates, trenchless pipeline installation, drilling and sampling. Work areas will include the northern sections of Aga Park, as well as City easements and roadways on El Paso, Hannover and Walnut Streets.  Incidental construction activity may also occur on or near Bunting Avenue, adjacent to Aga Park.

Work is expected to begin Monday, July 22, 2019.
