Types of Inspections
Permit Inspections
There are three specific types of permits that the fire department inspects: construction, annual operational and provisional. Fees are assessed for permit in accordance with the adopted fee schedule.
Construction Permits
Associated with construction activity that generally requires approval of construction drawings prior to the issuance of a permit. Inspections are performed after the work is completed to ensure the word performed is code complaint
- Aboveground (Automatic Sprinkler System)
- Rough-In; Inspection of piping, hangers, main lines, branch lines
- Hard-lid; Inspection of installation of components that will be behind drywall
- Hydrostatic; Hydrostatic testing with pressures described within NFPA 13
- Final; All trim, Hydrostatic, system acceptance
- Underground (Fire Line)
- Underground visual; Inspection of piping, fittings, and soil prior to buried: meets the NFPA standard
- Hydrostatic Pressure and Flush; Hydrostatic testing with pressures and Flush shall meet the NFPA 24 standard
- Fire Alarm
- Fire Alarm System Acceptance; shall initiating devices, notification devices shall be tested. Proper trouble codes and supervisory codes for alarm panel functions and supported devices.
- Dry/Wet Chemical System
- Acceptance; System will be tested as described with the proper NFPA standard. All safety features with proper shut down shall be demonstrated.
- Fire Final
- Fire Final; shall be completed with all Life Safety/IFC features are installed i.e. Fire Extinguishers, Egress doors working properly, Fire Lanes marked, Knox Box installed with proper keys, etc.
- Pikes Peak Regional Building Department permit required on site for electronic submittal.
Annual Operational Permits
Issued as a result of hazardous materials or activities that are present within a given business. The business must pass a fire inspection prior to the issuance of the operational permit. The operational permit is issued and effective for 12 months maximum.
Provisional Permit
Issued for a short time frame, generally associated with a given short term activity. The activity must be approved through inspection prior to issuance of a permit
