Q: My Street has pot holes and seems to be failing, why hasn’t it been fixed?
Road defects result from a combination of pavement fatigue / aging, inadequate road base and poor drainage. The City conducts road repairs throughout the year including pothole patching,

asphalt grinding / replacement and crack sealing. Any road defect can be reported online or contact and provide the exact address or location of the problem.

If you spot a pothole, cracks or other damage on any city street surface, you may report it online to MyFountain.

Q: A snowfall has just occurred. When will the City plow and salt/sand my street?
As soon as ice or snow begins to accumulate, our salting/sanding crews are out and about on the City’s main roads. Our goal is to complete this first round of salting on main roads within four hours. Residential collector roads, including main roads into residential neighborhoods are plowed and salted next. Residential roads are the final priority and are completed as available resources allow.

During an ongoing snowfall, were focused on getting the City’s main arterial roads cleared first so you can get where you need to go – especially emergency and transit vehicles. Main roads, which are travelled more frequently, are maintained first.

Please keep in mind that these services may be impacted by a number of factors, including heavy snowfall, cars parked on streets – which make it difficult for snowplows to clear roads – and cars or trailers parked on driveways too close or hanging over the curb.

Q: My Street hasn’t been plowed and it is difficult to leave my house. Why are main roads plowed before residential streets?
Main roads experience heavier traffic volumes, have steep hills, or serve as connecting roads that provide access to most residential streets. These main roads are plowed first for safety reasons to ensure they are clear for emergency and transit vehicles.

Our goal is to plow all streets as soon as possible after a snowfall has ended. During periods of heavy snowfall, plowing operations can take longer and there may be delays as our crews must rotate shifts for safety reasons.

Q: I have a physical disability. Who will shovel my driveway?
The City does not offer snow-clearing on private property to include driveways, sidewalks, office or commercial parking lots, etc. You may be able to get assistance from a family member, friend or neighbor, and there are also a number of private snow-clearing businesses in the area that provide that service.

Q: My Street has not had street sweeping in quite some time, why?
The City’s street sweeping program begins in the spring every year and continues until the fall depending on availability of resources, other responsibilities of the Street Department and the weather. Our street sweepers rely on water and if it is too cold the mechanical systems freeze.

Q: How do I get a faded crosswalk in my neighborhood repainted?
If you see a faded crosswalk, make a service request at the City of Fountain Website. Once a report is made, our crews will determine if the crosswalk needs to be repainted or cleaned.

Q: How do I get the sidewalk in front of my residence fixed?
Sidewalks are not the property of the City but are the responsibility of the adjoining landowner.

The City of Fountain does offer a 50/50 sidewalk program to help defer the cost of repairs. This program works on a first come, first served basis and is budget dependent. Please go to the City of Fountain Website for more information.
