2010 Water Valve Replacement Project
Background
The southeast area of Fountain has a unique soil condition that is very corrosive to steel and iron. The Water Department has been systematically replacing several blocks of water saddle taps every summer for the past three years in this area. Recently, larger water system elements, such as valves and fire hydrants, have been exhibiting extreme corrosion, causing failure. Last year, the Water Department replaced several water valves and planned to award a larger contract for this replacement this year. Project Location - Progress Drive Intersections

The project will occur between 11:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. and no replacements will be planned for Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings. The following intersections on Progress Drive will be a part of this project and are expected to begin on the dates listed.
Square Dance Lane - July 19
Rancher Drive - July 23
Bromefield Drive - July 26
Candlestar Loop South - July 28
Candlestar Loop North - August 2
Construction Costs
Five contractors submitted bids for 2010 Water Valve Replacement Project. A & R Construction was the low bidder and a recommended award amount of $62,000.00 was approved by council to include the project base bid and installation of corrosion protection monitoring devices. |
