Xeriscape GardenThe City of Fountain has always endeavored to be an efficient water using community.  By implementing a Water Conservation Plan, the City is demonstrating its dedication to providing the present and future citizens of Fountain a reliable water source for many years to come.  To review the Water Conservation Plan for the City, please see Related Pages below.

One way the City of Fountain is promoting water conservation is through its support of Xeriscape gardens around the City limits.  The City has sponsored several Xeriscape projects.  Xeriscape Gardens can be viewed at the Hibbard/Heritage (Cul-de-sac) located on Anthem Place; at the Fountain Valley Museum located on Main Street and at Fountain's new Library, located at Main Street, Fountain, CO.  To learn more about Xeriscaping, please review the Related Pages and News and Notices below.

Here's the Facts on Why We Need to Utilize Water Conservation:

  • Keeping Water Plentiful.  Although we are surrounded by water, most water is not drinkable.  In fact, only 3% of the world's water is fresh water and of this, 2/3 is stored in icecaps and glaciers.  This means only 1% of the world's water remaining is available for drinking.

  • Increased demands.  Because population throughout the world is continuing to increase, our water demands have already led to shortages in many countries, including areas of the United States.  Several states encourage and provide discounts to their water customers who recycle and use "Gray Water."  "Gray Water" means wastewater collected separately from a sewage flow that originates from a clothes washer, bathtub, shower, and sink, but does not include wastewater from a kitchen sink, dishwasher, or toilet."  Reusing water, especially in high desert regions, is considered environmentally responsible.  Gray Water is collected and then solely used for lawn care and irrigation needs.  To find out more information about "Gray Water," check with Fountain's local library or research it on the internet under "Gray Water."

  • Keeping Water Clean.  Conserving water is only half the battle.  To ensure that our water needs will always be met, we must protect our water supplies against the constant threat of pollution and/or sabotage.

  • Everyone's Responsibility.  Working to protect our precious water supplies is critical.  We use water every day to grow our food, provide power, control fire, to heat and cool our homes and places of work, to keep us clean and most importantly--to keep us alive.  That's why it is critical to conserve water for our future and our children's future.

  • Save Money.  By conserving, you can save money on your water and utility bills, sewer, and septic costs.

  • Save Energy.  You'll save energy by reducing the amount of hot water you use while saving electricity needed to pump water.

  • Save the Environment.  Conserving water helps ease the burden on conveyance, treatment, storage, and distribution facilities.
Water World in HandsThe City of Fountain will continue to encourage all our residents to use water conservation tips whenever possible.  Remember to always:
